Beauty Called Her

The day she saw herself as beautiful was the day compliments were no longer her bread. It was the day affirming words were instead the cherry on top of her sweet countenance. Her eyes were unveiled, and her heart was free. The beauty before her was ever-so striking, awe-inspiring.

She questioned its mortality, for even after the longest days, so becoming was the reflection staring at her through the mirror. She carefully observed and took in every detail, noting every bump and freckle. Astonished, she found even her flaws were flawless, every blemish in its place, and every scar but a story of brokenness and redemption.

Her lips bowed as she marveled at the masterpiece before her. Tears filled her eyes as thoughts rushed to the forefront of her mind, daringly suggesting that what lay behind those dark amber portals was far greater than words could express. Indeed, that a world of mystery was yet to be discovered, and that it would be revealed by the One who dwelled inside. This truth became her reality, a reality so great, it surpassed every fairytale she read and every fantasy she dreamed.

This was the perspective she had asked for from her Creator—to see the masterpiece that captivated His heart from the moment of conception, and His thoughts from before time began. Nothing would be as it was, if she could just see things rightly—herself, her God. Just one glimpse, and she would forever follow this love that chose her first.

She took a deep breath as her spirit leapt in excitement, illuminated by the magnificence of such a treasure.

Beauty called her.
Covenant protected her.
Mystery pursued her.
Goodness rescued her.

She treated compliments like oncoming traffic in the supermarket: with an acknowledging smile, followed by much avoided eye-contact, attempting to disregard and hoping to forget any further thought of the initial encounter.

There's Nothing Like It

Suddenly the time came. It was unmistakable, undeniable, unable to be ignored. Time for a change. Time for something new but familiar still. Time for an adjustment. It was... stretchy pants time.
